PhD thesis
Title: Perceptions of whiteness, homosexuality and democracy in the post-apartheid narrative: a commitment to Relation.
My thesis deals with the various perceptions of whiteness, homosexuality and democracy in the post-apartheid narrative. It argues that these perceptions condition the character’s psychology such as to make them blind to their own abilities and necessity to continuously act for better living conditions in their society. Relation is argued as the methodological framework and alternative that engages South African in perpetual struggle for social justice and true democracy. The thesis highlights major features of the post-apartheid narrative and enables relevant comparisons with the factual South Africa. Not only the Glissantian Relation (more or less postcolonial theory), some categories from Narratology but, also the theory of social representations work in the thesis as theoretical lenses guiding my readings.
