BIGSAS Festival African and African-diasporic Literatures 2018: “Space, Feminism and Resistance”

24.06.2018

25 – 27 Juni 2018

Venue: Iwalewahaus

Wölfelstr.2
95444 Bayreuth
Germany

The 7th edition of the BIGSAS Festival of African and African-diasporic literatures will be dedicated to the concept of space. In terms of geopolitics, it will feature Nigeria, Kenya, Southern Africa and African diasporas in Europe. Moreover, it will address the MENA region as cultural memory of a longstanding Mediterranean identity that transgresses the Europe-Africa-divide. Interconnecting these geopolitical spaces with the notion of space as a social category, the festival will engage with resistance in general, feminism and anti-Apartheid, paying particular tribute to the 100th Nelson Mandela’s birthday anniversary on the 18th of July. Featuring Esther Dischereit’s poEthic subversion of the racist NSU murder series (2000-2006), the festival, moreover, will celebrate street art as edutainment which empowers rethinking of the already appropriated public spaces.
